I Know This Means Something

I'm not sure what "this" is, so I can't be sure it actually does mean something. In addition to that, I'm not sure what it would be to "mean something" in this context. Because of the vagueness of this title, I'm going to assume the only possible conclusion: "the word 'this' has a definition." "This" is a demonstrative pronoun that deontes something that is present or near in place or time, or something just mentioned, or that is just about to be mentioned. As an adjective, "this" has the same demonstrative force as the pronoun, but is followed by a noun. There are clear definitions for "this," and as such certainly means something.
